Periodically, we will feature short devotions from our members here at Bible Baptist Church.
We like to think there is a reason for everything. And there is! God has a purpose for every thing He does. Nothing just happens…God has His plan.
The same is true with His Word. Some may question the reason Matthew is the first Book found in the New Testament, but in this, God has a reason. Matthew was a tax collector. A man hated by his own people, and yet God uses his Book as a transition from the Old Testament to the New. He was well acquainted with the Jewish law, as well as the Gentile (Roman) Law. He dealt daily with both types of people. He was able to move freely among the people, and when he was saved both could see the change in his life.
Matthew knew God's Word. He quotes from the Old Testament over forty times. He refers to the Old Testament prophecies 60 times, and uses the word "Kingdom" 50 times. He refers to Jesus as "King" seven times. The whole theme of the Book of Matthew is "Jesus the King." What better Book to start out the New Testament with, than with Matthew. The one who kept excellent records, now excellently records the Excellency of Jesus Christ, the King!
Is Christ the King supreme in your life? Why not accept the King of Matthew into your heart today?
